The Good Book gives us many instructions on how to live a meaningful and productive life.
It also teaches us that we are to encourage other people with the knowledge of this truth. Sharing and receiving friendship is not only important with things such as functioning in society, our homes and our places of worship but, also at times when we may feel discouraged, depressed, etc. We need each other!
While reading the Book of Titus today a couple of things stood out to me that I'd like to share.
Paul says, "They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good." (1:16)
Wow! Do you think the old saying, "actions speak louder than words" came from this scripture?
How often do you and I hear people say they want "To Make A Difference" ?
In the Bible, the Book of Titus, along with many other places, tells us how we can make a difference while we are on this earth. We are instructed to teach and we are to encourage others!
Here in Titus, Paul says that "while we wait for the glorious appearing" of Jesus we are to be doing good. And - guess what else? We are to "be "EAGER" to do what is good." (2:14) The word "EAGER" means "moved by a strong and urgent desire or interest...enthusiasm and sometimes impatience at delay...longing, yearning, and more."
While we teach and share with others, we are to remind them ( and ourselves) "to be ready to do whatever is good".
How is all of this possible? Because.... "of the kindness and love of God our Savior."
We are to "stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to "DEVOTE" themselves to doing what is good." (3:8) The word "DEVOTE" means " to set apart or dedicate....to give all or a large part of one's time or resources to (a person, activity, or cause)
Finally, we are to "LEARN" to devote ourselves to doing what is good." (3:14)
The word "LEARN" means "to gain/acquire knowledge or skill by studying, practicing, being taught, or experiencing something."
Why must we "learn"?
So that we do not live unproductive lives!
Colossians 1:10, "so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God."
Ephesians 2:10, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."
The question..........are you "Making A Difference"?
Do your actions speak of the
kindness and love of Jesus Christ?
It is not too late!
Make a U-turn on your journey through life
and
learn to devote to doing what is good!
